A&C’s Vineyard Walks walking wine tours

Arblaster and Clarke, the leading wine tour specialists, offer the ultimate in walking wine holidays. The programme currently includes vineyard walks to Burgundy, Chablis and Southern Champagne, Alsace, the Rhone, Rioja, the Douro and Piemonte as well as our fabulous new walk around the vineyards of the South Downs. Our carefully designed programme changes every year so if there is a region you are particularly interested in please get in touch. Our wine trails are planned to take in great vineyards, wonderful views and excellent wine tastings at both traditional and innovative cellars.

Our Vineyard Walks are genuinely wine tours on foot! The vineyard walks are designed to be interesting and educational and on our wine walks you will really get to know and understand how differences in soil and aspect (as the French call “terroir”) determine the resulting wine. On a typical day on a Vineyard Walk you will stroll for an hour through the vineyards to the first tasting, then onto a picnic lunch, in the afternoon there is usually another walk and more tastings! You will cover an easy five to eight miles a day although this varies with each tour so please read the descriptions carefully.

On many of our walking holidays, a small local mini-bus or taxi is on hand throughout the tour. It will transfer your bags and wine after tastings and to take you into the local towns. If at any stage you want to “opt out” of the day’s walk, transport can be called easily. We use characterful accommodation, on the Vineyard Walks; comfortable family-run hotels.

The trails have been walked out and researched extensively by our team to ensure the routes take in the best of a region. Arblaster and Clarke have experienced leaders who are enthusiastic walkers with a good knowledge of a region’s wine, trails, vineyards and food. The party size for all these European walking holidays is limited to just 16 people (or just 12 on our Douro walk).

For private groups of 10 – 16 participants we can arrange wine walks to all the areas detailed below. In addition we can arrange tours to some of our other favourite regions such as the Central and Eastern Loire, Champagne and Bordeaux – all of which are areas to which we have personally arranged scheduled wine walks to in the past.
