This tour, set up with Dilmah, the leading estate tea-grower, starts in the colonial Galle Face hotel on the water front in Colombo. We visit Dilmah’s offices where the blendings are made, and hope to attend a tea auction. Up in the hill country we overnight in Kandy, visit the Temple of Lord Buddha, then continue to Nuwara-eliya, the heart of tea country. In the company of a Dilmah plantation manager, we'll learn about the daily life on a plantation, the annual cycle and about picking (and assist if you wish).
Our journey then takes us to the famous rock fortress of Sigiriya and the Dambullah Rock Cave Temple. We visit a bazaar with a chef and then assist him in preparing a traditional Sri Lankan meal cooked over a wood fire. Our last night is back in Colombo, with time to explore the craft shops with their beautiful textiles and attractive prices! Along the way we sample many of the spicy dishes that this wonderful island offers.
