8 - 14 March 2009

This tour starts in Canberra the heart and capital of Australia.

We have heard much talk (and tasted for ourselves) the very exciting Shiraz coming out of a handful of top quality wine estates here such as Clonakilla and the bio-dynamic Lark Hill.

From here we drive to Rutherglen, home of stickies “so thick you can stand a spoon up in them”. Rutherglen gives a charming glimpse into out-back Australia. We have relaxed but incredibly informative tastings here with Morris and Chambers Rosewood Vineyards.

Continuing south we call in on our old friends at Brown Brothers for lunch en route to our final base the Yarra Valley, outside Melbourne. In the 19th century this was the premium wine region of Australia. Just about everywhere else was making fortified but Yarra made classic European style wines.
We stay in 4* wine estate accommodation from where we visit Yering Station and Seville Estate. This leg of the tour ends in Melbourne.

Tasmania

Finally, if you would like to visit Tasmania, we have arranged a five night self-drive trip taking in Launceston, Freycinet and Hobart, staying in boutique hotels on a B&B basis, with a visit to Piper’s Brook and return flights from Melbourne to Tasmania included.

£850 per person, please call the office for more details.
