On this escorted tour we have a visit to a wine domain shortly after arrival to taste the wines of the historic region of Gattinara. Rated as a DOCG, Italy’s top wine classification, Gattinara is a little known region that has made a leap in quality. (It was considered to be one of the finest regions in Italy in the Middle Ages). The local grape is the Spanna, a synonym for the mighty Nebbiolo of Barolo fame. Here, shortly after landing we will visit the top producer, Nervi who give us an informative visit. The winemaker will explain the region as well as their own wines and treat us to a generous tasting. Their single vineyard ‘cru’ is a very fine wine.

Two dinners are included at good restaurants in Milan and these will be accompanied by a selection of fine North Italian wines. We have a private viewing of Leonardo's Last Supper and there is a guided walking tour of the city. There will also be plenty of time to explore Milan further on your own.

The highlight of the tour is Mozart's Cosi fan tutte at Teatro alla Scala. The production is in association with La Scala's Academy of Performing Arts.

Our final day is spent tasting in the vineyards of Franciacorta, where we taste at the state of the art cellars of Bellavista, famed as Italian’s top sparkling wine and then continue to the beautiful home of the Barzano family at Il Mosnel, where we are welcomed to lunch. We then continue directly to Milan Linate airport for the return flight.
