Champagne Self Drive
6 - 9 December 2007
Our base for this ‘Longue weekend’ is the Grand Cru village of Aÿ, which is an easy drive from Calais. Our guide meets you on location. Aÿ is a centre of the Champagne trade, home to Bollinger and many other houses. Anyone looking to stock up their car boot for a family celebration will find these trips ideal. The Reims Christmas Market is on at this time too.
Make your own way to Champagne, which is an easy drive from Calais or a short train journey from Paris. Aÿ is a centre of the Champagne trade, home to Bollinger and many houses and growers. You stay at a 3* Manor house, owned by Champagne vignerons. A member of our local team meets you here.
On the first evening we have an introductory tasting with Henri Goutorbe. On the next day we visit the Vineyards and Cellars by coach starting with Leclerc-Briant, having lunch with Launois and a late afternoon tasting with Cattier. The next day our wine touring is on foot as we walk around Aÿ, visiting several small firms for tastings, including De Meric and Roger Brun where we stop for lunch. Return home next day. You can leave the region after lunch and be back in London or the south east by mid evening.
