A few words from Arblaster & Clarke ...

Sour grapes?

October 31, 2016

Now, we've all felt short-changed at the bar when our bill is higher than we anticipated... but at least we can rest assured that the drinks we think we've paid for, are the drinks we're actually drinking. Well, that isn't always the case.

Wine fraud has been the topic of conversation at our offices this week - thanks to the release of Sour Grapes. The independent documentary tells the story of Rudy Kurniawan, an enterprising young man who passed himself off as a wine savant. Over the course of five years, he flooded the US market with counterfeit vintages - whilst pocketing millions of dollars in profit. The fascinating film is making its way around the festival circuit at the moment, but will be on general release later this year.

Much like buses, as soon as one wine fraud film comes along another is sure to follow... Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey is set to star in an adaptation of The Billionaire's Vinegar - which tells the infamous story of Hardy Rodenstock and the Thomas Jefferson bottles. Keep an eye out for the new film in 2017.

Now we're sure you're eager to rush off and take a closer look at your wine racks... but when it comes to our tours you really don't need to worry. You'll only taste the finest of wines when you travel with Arblaster & Clarke.
