Not forgetting, of course, those endless vineyards — 160,000 hectares across each of Australia’s states, to be precise.

Big Country, Big Contrasts

Perhaps unsurprisingly for the world’s largest island, Australia’s vines are nurtured by some wildly differing climates. Its hot regions are home to world-famous, fruit-forward Shiraz, while cooler regions create wines running the gamut from feather-light sparklers to plummy Pinot Noir. Then there’s just-right Western Australia, with its famous unoaked Chardonnays.
